India Adventures

India puts things in your face; there are no filters on anything. Cow dung in the street, monkeys stealing bananas out of your bag if you aren't watching, and then there's you. You dealing with all of these differences in culture. You dealing with your reactions to all of the new experiences, the judgements, the challenges. The men who chew beetle nut all day so they're bottom teeth are orange and rotten. The women who wear saris everywhere and are always staring at us in our western clothing as we stare at them. The children begging in the streets. The stray dogs stealing your slippers to chew on, and the haze that lasts all day from the fires in the mountains. The stifling heat in the afternoon, to which the only remedy is a dip in the Ganga (Ganges River) wearing all of your clothes if you're a woman, and only your undies if you're a man. The suppression is real here.

The food is almost always spicy and you can't drink the water. Our feet and hands are always dirty, and my poop hasn't been normal the whole time I've been here. There is never toilet paper in the bathrooms because they use a little faucet beside the toilet to spray down below. How it all works, I'm not really sure. But I've tried...and then wondered how to drip dry in the restaurant bathroom, and how in the world do the Indian women do it with all of their giant sari fabric?

Ooh India, the more I wonder the more I learn. The more I judge the more I see about myself. Every outward reflection is a mirror of what I see in myself, or don't wish to see in myself. What am I seeing in you, and how is that a reflection of me? What can I appreciate, what can I let go of? How can I learn to see the beauty in all of the disorder, the chaos, the struggles. How can I remember the innate peace that lies within me; how can I find that love for myself and all beings in the midst of the daily challenges?

I came to India to complete a 200 hour Mantra Yoga teacher training. I've been here for two weeks now, and it's definitely a change of lifestyle for me, as the busy mama/business owner that I am back home. The solitude, the anonymity, the freedom of not being needed, not having to answer to anyone. Being able to go inward, take a peak inside myself and answer some questions that hadn't yet been asked. What is it that I'm seeking? Where am I heading? What are my next steps? How do I wish to change the world? How can I share what I'm learning and discovering with the world to raise consciousness? What are my needs and how can they be fulfilled? How can I communicate lovingly and peacefully to everyone around me?

I have a deep need of being in service. I know that I have a lot to share and a lot to give. I have spent the last 3 years growing, learning, taking a deep look at myself and life. I've been un-conditioning the conditions that I was taught so that I can really be free - free in my mind, body and heart.

I've completed three 200-hour yoga teacher trainings: Kundalini, Vinyasa, and Mantra. I've completed intensive trainings in prenatal yoga, children's yoga, and Hot Buddhi. And I've been trained in crystal healing, sacred pregnancy birth education, and as a doula (someone who assists a woman in labor). I know that I am here to teach, to share the beautiful knowledge that had been passed down. And I am so grateful for these gifts, these treasures of ancient knowledge that have been shared with me. And I am excited to share them all with you through my services as a designer, as a healer, as a creator.

We are all creators and we all have the amazing ability to manifest our dreams. Let's work together to change the world. Sometimes the hardest part is finding your passion and focusing on it wholeheartedly, believing in it, and then following through no matter what obstacles come your way.

When I started my jewelry business, I had no idea how to run a business. But I had a dream. It's wild to think to it's been 10 years now since I started Noelani Designs jewelry, and I am so grateful for the people whose lives have been uplifted by my creations. For all of the beautiful women who feel the love that is put into my designs, and because of that, they feel more confident to share their beauty with the world.

I will share more about my beginnings as a business owner in another blog to follow.
But for now, I ask you...

What if you saw everything as sacred and divined as a part of the whole, connected to you?
